At Koyaike Hut on Mt. Hiuchi — where we stay on our 2-day tour — you’ll find a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a cosy common area where guests gather after dinner. The huts offer dormitory-style sleeping arrangements.Private rooms are available, but they tend to book up quickly. Blankets and pillows are provided, so there’s no need to carry a sleeping bag. Dinner and breakfast are included. Toilet facilities are available, but there is no shower in the hut.
The prime hiking season runs from early July through early October. Before July, significant snow remains on the higher elevation, which can make dangerous without the right equipment and experience. From mid-October onward, early snowfall begins to arrive, and the mountain huts close for the season.
July — August: Alpine wildflowers are in full bloom across the high meadows and marshlands, painting the landscape in vivid colour.
Late September ー Early October: A brief but breathtaking window of peak autumn foliage. The combination of red and gold against the rugged mountain backdrop is unforgettable.
