Mt. Hiuchi Summit Trek — 2 Days / 1 Night

35,000JPY ~ 58,000JPY/person
Minimun 2 people July ~ October

Conquer Mt. Hiuchi — One of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains

Rising to 2,462m, Mt. Hiuchi is the highest peak in the Shinetsu region and one of the crown jewels of the Kubiki mountain range, alongside Mt. Myoko and Mt. Yake. At around 2,000–2,100m, the mountain opens up into a breathtaking highland of marshes and wetlands — Koya-ike Pond and Tengunoniwa Marshland among them. When the deep winter snow finally retreats in July, these wetlands burst into life with a vivid tapestry of alpine wildflowers set against fresh green foliage, lingering snowfields, and wide open blue sky. It's a scene that genuinely stops you in your tracks. From mid-September, the mountain begins its slow turn to autumn. By late September and into October, the colours are nothing short of extraordinary — a display that has to be seen to be believed.

A Night in a Mountain Hut at 2,100m

We spend the night at Koyaike Hut, perched at 2,100m with a pristine marsh stretching out right on its doorstep. Before dinner, take a leisurely stroll through the wetlands — wildflowers in summer, blazing colour in autumn. After dark, on a clear night, the sky above fills with more stars than most people have ever seen.

At Koyaike Hut on Mt. Hiuchi — where we stay on our 2-day tour — you’ll find a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a cosy common area where guests gather after dinner. The huts offer dormitory-style sleeping arrangements.Private rooms are available, but they tend to book up quickly. Blankets and pillows are provided, so there’s no need to carry a sleeping bag. Dinner and breakfast are included. Toilet facilities are available, but there is no shower in the hut.

The prime hiking season runs from early July through early October. Before July, significant snow remains on the higher elevation, which can make dangerous without the right equipment and experience. From mid-October onward, early snowfall begins to arrive, and the mountain huts close for the season.

July — August: Alpine wildflowers are in full bloom across the high meadows and marshlands, painting the landscape in vivid colour.

Late September ー Early October: A brief but breathtaking window of peak autumn foliage. The combination of red and gold against the rugged mountain backdrop is unforgettable.
