Togakushi Pilgrimage Trail Hike
Walk an Ancient Pilgrimage Route Through the Sacred Shrines of Togakushi
Togakushi Shrine traces its origins to one of Japan's oldest myths — the legend of Amano-Iwato, in which the sun goddess Amaterasu hid herself in a cave, plunging the world into darkness. For over a thousand years, this mountain has been revered as a sacred site, where ascetic monks trained in its steep peaks and hidden caves. On this tour, you'll walk the ancient pilgrimage trails that link all five Togakushi shrines, passing through the towering cedar forests and dramatic landscapes of Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park. It's a hike that layers natural beauty with living history at every turn.

Over 1,000 Years of Sacred History
Togakushi's status as a holy mountain appears in written records dating back more than a millennium. Walk the same cobblestone paths and stand beneath the same ancient cedar trees — some over 800 years old — that pilgrims have revered for generations.
Lunch at a Local Togakushi Soba Restaurant
Lunch at a Local Togakushi Soba Restaurant / Togakushi is celebrated as one of Japan's finest soba-producing regions, and every restaurant here puts its own craft and character into the bowl.
